Kyle D'Arcy

Computer Science Student at Penn State University · (540) 251-1972 · kyle.darcy@icloud.com

I am a senior at Penn State (graduating May 2023) studying computer science with a physics minor, searching for full-time opportunities post-graduation in software engineering (full-stack, back-end, or data). In terms of industry experience, I interned at Apple this past summer as a big data engineer, at Capital One as a back-end developer, and at Intuit as a front-end developer. Throughout this experience, I have fueled my passion for solving highly technical problems with computing power.

Outside of classes and work, I am a capstone student on Penn State's Advanced Vehicle Team (working on object detection), a Robotics Club team lead, and a HackPSU mobile app engineer. Additionally, I love to trail run and mountain bike! I just recently completed my first 50-mile ultramarathon.

Experience

Software Engineer Intern

Capital One Financial Corporation
  • Back-end Developer on the Cloud & Productivity Engineering Team.
    • Worked with three other interns to build out a new full-stack Application Recovery Plan management tool
    • Applied AWS knowledge in DynamoDB, S3, and Aurora to deploy a back-end for the ARP tool
    • Used Python experience to construct a Flask API framework that managed calls to a DynamoDB, RDS, and S3 bucket
June 2021 - August 2021

Software Developer Co-op

Intuit Inc.
  • Front-end Developer on QuickBooks Payroll Team
    • Utilized JavaScript React to develop, maintain, and debug the QuickBooks Online contractor management tool
    • Applied GraphQL and Apollo knowledge to add asynchronous queries across QuickBooks Online, resulting in a more tailored user experience for QuickBooks Payroll users throughout the product
    • Increased access speeds and code efficiency by refactoring the contractors tool UI repository and removing over 10,000 lines of unused code

Projects

Restaurant Picker Web App

  • Utilized Python to fetch restaurant data from Yelp’s Fusion API and run a live flask server on Google App Engine
  • Leveraged the Google Maps JS API to plot restaurants on a map and actively pan depending on user’s mouse location
  • Used CSS to create a minimalistic, yet powerful UI that simplifies the restaurant picking process for users

Online GPA Calculator

  • Applied CSS skills to design an intuitive UI that allows users to enter their courses and corresponding information
  • Leveraged JavaScript and jQuery functions to display a live calculation of the user’s overall semester GPA and add or remove courses fluidly
  • Utilized Python to create a flask server that allows one template to structure both the high school and college calculator

Outer Banks Surf and Weather Report

  • Used the Beautiful Soup HTML parser to scrap weather and surf information of all Outer Banks beach locations from multiple online sources
  • Incorporated functions to average the data and rank the beaches based on user’s weather and wave height preferences
  • Displayed beach rankings and gathered user preference settings using the Python Tkinter interface

Sudoku Solver

  • Designed an algorithm using python to solve sudoku puzzles without the use of backtracking
  • Utilized a 3D matrix to track all the number possibilities for a given cell and eliminated those possibilities by iterating over the puzzle and applying logical arguments

Work Calendar Sync

  • Applied Python knowledge to access Selenium Webdriver and created functions to login and scrap schedule data from the Wegmans employee portal site
  • Leveraged the Google Calendar API to create events on personal calendar for each shift of the work schedule
